2005-12-23 - Netzwelt: "The Shuttle XPC M1000 fits perfectly in a Hi-Fi system"
"Those who think that PCs don't belong in the living room are often correct. Most typical PCs are far too noisy to be the
right partners for an evening spent relaxing on the couch. Yet this group test has little to do with typical PCs." The
German online magazine Netzwelt took a look at four media center PCs. The all new Shuttle XPC System M1000 was there.
"The Shuttle XPC M1000 is living room-ready even from a purely optical point of view, with a size of two slim DVD players on top of one another." Looks can't be everything however – once they started using the M1000 the reviewers praised its use of a Pentium M processor for its low power usage and heat dissipation. This was in addition to the ample connection options offered for TV and surround sound system, especially important given the presence of a Creative Sound Blaster Live! 24-bit sound chip for 8-channel digital experience. Throw in Gigabit Ethernet port and built-in Wireless LAN, and it's easy to see why the M1000 offers everything one would need.
Once plugged in the M1000 is also easy to use: "The elegant remote control makes using the PC very easy. Also included is a wireless keyboard with built-in trackball." What about noise of the unwished for kind in the living room? "Even under full load the M1000 isn't really loud."
Conclusion: "The Shuttle XPC M1000 looks the part of a living room PC, consumes little power, is compact and offers generous connection options."
Pros: - Very quiet - Very compact - Lowest power consumption of all PCs tested |
