PC Advisor: "Four stars out of five"
"It's hard to think what else Shuttle could have fitted in," realize the editors of the British computer magazine PC Advisor after having tested the Shuttle XPC Barebone SD39P2 which is "far more than a potential media centre system." To find out what else convinced the editors besides "sleek looks," "good sounds" and support of the "very finest of Intel's latest crop of processors," just read on.
Being the latest high-performance small form factor PC from Shuttle, the XPC Barebone SD39P2 "may indeed be small," but "inside lies the heart of an Intel powerhouse," according to PC Advisor. This mini PC offers the basis for "a prolonged and enjoyable relationship," the editors believe.
The Barebone supports latest Intel processors, when they explain: "you could fit the Shuttle XPC Barebone SD39P2 out with a 6800 Extreme, or even a quad-core chip." That said, "any Socket 775 processor will do the job," they add. Thanks to the built-in SilentX power supply, this barebone remains "whisper-quiet" and even "few will mind the Shuttle SD39P2 Barebone sitting in their living room or bedroom."
Having taken the case off, the Shuttle XPC Barebone SD39P2 reveals capacity for up to 8GB of DDR2 and "double-width graphics cards." Furthermore, it provides room for up to three internal hard drives, a 5.25 DVD drive, a 3.5 memory card reader or floppy drive. "The small size doesn't mean that the Shuttle XPC Barebone SD39P2 struggles for ports and connectors," explain the testers. It also offers eight USB 2.0 ports as well as FireWire and an eSata jack on the rear.
