Custom PC: "A very respectable portable gaming rig"
"The motherboard inside the SD39P2 might be small, but this doesn't mean that it should be any slower than a full-sized ATX board," the editors of the British hardware magazine Custom PC rule out the rumor that small has to mean slow. The SD39P2's benchmark scores "are similar to those of 975X-based motherboards." Providing "solid performance" and "great build quality," the SD39P2 also impressed the editors thanks to its "good-looking" and "quiet" P2 chassis.
"The build quality and finish of Shuttle's P2 chassis is superb," writes Custom PC having now had a closer look at the third XPC model of the P2 series.
The extra space which the SD39P2 is taller than the G2 and G5 series, "has been put to good use." In other words, the SD39P2 boasts four DDR2 slots for up to 8GB of RAM, space for up to three hard disks plus one optical drive and dual slot graphics cards as well.
But it's "still compact enough to carry under your arm and small enough not to hog all your desk space," the editors assure.
Also, in terms of I/O connectors, "the SD39P2 is resolutely modern" and it's "unlikely to run out of free sockets." The "handy clear CMOS button" on the rear sides helps to reset the PC to the default settings.
Performance-wise, the SD39P2 keeps up with full-sized mobos and managed to cope well with the hardware the editors installed – GeForce 7900GTX, 2.66GHz Core 2 Duo E6700, a 250 GB S-ATA II HDD and 2GB of RAM.
