Home Entertainment Today: 3.5 out of 4 stars
"Are you looking for the ideal device for your study room?" ask the editors of the Dutch lifestyle magazine Home Entertainment Today (HET) having the answer already at hand: "The Shuttle XPC G5 8300M and the Shuttle XP17 TempAG V2 are here to represent the ideal package."
"The cube-shaped PCs from Shuttle have become established on the market over the years, but still each unit leaves its own mark," explains HET. With the Shuttle XPC G5 8300M, one of those recently paid a visit to the labs of Home Entertainment Today and received excellent ratings on the scale.
After having removed the case, a "tidy interior" comes to light and the Shuttle XPC G5 8300M "has everything aboard, a modern PC will have to offer," praise the editors its connectivity. "A machine that will manage most of the tasks around and is well-suited for both working and relaxing," continue the IT-experts of HET magazine. Relaxing comes into play whenever it is talked about software.
The Shuttle XPC G5 8300M for Windows XP Media Center Edition is delivered with a "handy remote control" that easily turns your room into a "digital lounge" within "just a few mouseclicks." Performancewise, the Shuttle XPC G5 8300M received a lot of praise, as the editors state: "The PC is well-suited for enjoying music, watching DVDs and TV. Even other digital tasks mean no problem for the G5 8300M." As a "nice extra" for your multimeda enjoyment the editors point out the integrated VFD display that lets you obtain more information about the media currently playing: "A conventient feature that highlights its suitability as a Media Center for the living room." But just as important as connectivity and convenience for a Media Center PC is the noise level and "this has been taken care of," add the editors and continue: "You barely notice it when switched on and that’s for sure an advantage considered its powerful hardware configuration."
Conclusion:
"The cube-shaped Shuttle XPC G5 8300M is a nice combination of a fast computer and a digital video recorder with home entertainment ambitions."
Pros:
- Design
