C't: "Neat mini barebone"

"Introducing the Shuttle XPC Barebone SN21G5, Shuttle adds a new model to their family of mini barebones. The latest member boasts Nvidias nForce 410 chipset having the nForce 6100 graphics integrated." The barebone that earned unemotional looks at first turned out to be a tough performer: the Shuttle XPC Barebone SN21G5.

The IT-experts took a closer look at the Shuttle XPC Barebone SN21G5, one of the latest Shuttle XPC Barebones seeing it perform well – all at a low noise level. "The SN21G5 stayed quiet in every situation despite its performance. Without applications running showing only the Windows desktop, the Shuttle XPC Barebone SN21G5 we measured only 0.9 Sone and even under full load it wasn’t more than 1.5 Sone." Overall the Shuttle XPC Barebone SN21G5 got dubbed as a "neat mini barebone."

But there’s even more in it, since it is designed for the latest components. "The heatpipe cooling with its 92mm fan should even manage the Athlon 64 FX60 according to Shuttle." The editors took Shuttle at their word and added: "After a look at the compatibility list we installed Nvidias powerful GeForce 7800 GTX and were curious about the result." Even this configuration didn’t cause any problems: "With a rated power output of 250 Watt, the PSU of the Shuttle XPC Barebone SN21G5 was put to its limit, but it didn’t hamper its stable operation at all." For the editors’ surprise, they discovered the heatpipe cooling managing to cool down even the state of the art processor Athlon 64 FX60 effectively." Taking a look at the performance, the Shuttle XPC Barebone SN21G5 convinced its testers, since the "fast CPU and the 3D-monster plugged in the PCI-E slot deliver respectable performance" – scoring impressive 7884 points in 3D Mark 2005, 138 frames per second (fps) in Doom 3 and "good" 178 fps in Quake-IV.
