British Open

British Open

The „British Open“ („The Open Championship“) is the oldest golf tournament in the world. It is held on links courses once a year in July, played for the very first time on October 17, 1860 with Willie Park as the proud winner. It was him who managed to win the trophy four times totally. The „British Open“ is the only tournament of the four Majors to be held in Europe. Thus, the tournament founded by the Earl of Eglinton and Colonel James Fairlie under the name „The Open Championship“ sometimes is referred to as the „British Open.“ The term „Open“ indicates a tournament that can also be entered by amateurs apart from professionals.
