The worldwide umbrella organization for golfers is the "Professional Golfers Association" (PGA). Famous professional golfers like Tiger Woods or Bernhard Langer, as well as any golf clubs, coaches and organizers of professional tournaments belong to the PGA. The two strongest golf leagues are the US PGA Tour and the PGA European Tour that are organized independently from each other.
Every golfer has only one goal: to participate in the world's biggest and most important professional tournaments -- the "Majors," the "US Open," the "US Masters" and the "PGA Championship." These feature the very best of golfers only. As a special feature, the "Majors" as the "British Open" are called and the "US Open" allow the participation of amateur golfers as well. Otherwise the participants have to play qualification tournaments in order to be allowed to start at the "US Masters" and the "PGA Championship," unless they are among the winners of the past ten years, won one of the other major tournaments within the last five years or are listed on the Top 30 Money List. |
