2005-12-15 - PC Pro: "Overall 5 out of 6"

The editors of the English IT magazine PC Pro were curious, when they heard of Shuttle's "foray into the world of hi-fi-style Media Centers." But how does it work? The key is the Shuttle XPC System M1000 in hi-fi format. "Given Shuttle's record with small-form-factor-PCs," the editors of PC Pro expected a lot and received a lot, as they proudly conclude: "If you're looking for a stylish Media Center PC with a wide array of interfaces and silent operation, the Shuttle XPC M1000 is a superb purchase."

After unwrapping the package, their first impression was the beautiful design: "The front panel is jet-black and houses a bright digital display that shows useful information," explain the editors of the English computer magazine PC Pro. But today, looks isn't everything and the Shuttle XPC System M1000 has a lot more to offer anyway. Moving on to its performance then, the editors go on discovering: "Under the hood sits a 1.73GHz Pentium M 740, giving enough performance yet producing very little heat or noise." Whoever demands graphics performance from the Shuttle XPC System M1000 will be happy with "the presence of a GeForce 6600 means gaming is a possibility with a reasonable level of graphical detail."

Associating power with noise? Not in this case! Taking playing DVDs and example, this is exactly what the editors tested and finally summed up: "It was the quietest machine when playing a DVD; one of the M 1000's biggest strengths."

Accessory-wise, the Shuttle XPC System M1000 doesn't need to fear its competitors either: "The keyboard and remote match the M1000 with their black and silver styling, and Shuttle has wisely opted for a trackball instead of the woeful joysticks and directional pads of some other keyboards on test. Our M1000 came equipped with two analog tuners, but you can opt for digital ones for no extra cost."

So the editors put it in a nutshell: "If you are looking for a stylish Media Center PC with a wide array of interfaces and silent operation, the Shuttle XPC M1000 is a superb purchase."

Conclusion:

"Shuttle has done it again: fantastic consumer-style looks quiet operation and great connectively make this a fine choice."
