2005-05-26 - Barebonecenter: "Gold Award & Silent Award"

2005-05-26 - Barebonecenter:

The worldwide PC market is changing these days - away from 32-bit systems and onwards to 64-bit ones including support for PCI Express. But how will Shuttle handle these changes? With the XPC Barebone ST20G5! This "small masterpiece" has earned new fans after being tested by the editors of the German website Barebonecenter.de. "For its excellent performance and overall design," this "top barebone" has been given the "Gold-Award" and - the icing on the cake - the Shuttle XPC Barebone ST20G5 has received the "Silent-Award" for low noise level.

"Making no compromises and taking no risks, Shuttle has opted to use its trusted G5 chassis. This silver case and matching front panel give the XPC a very attractive look," write the editors of Barebonecenter.de, a German hardware website. A closer look revealed a well organized interior and good build quality: "Generally, the organization of the cables in this SFF PC is very good. […] No competitors can match Shuttle in this area - other manufacturers could learn a thing or two." As for the mainboard, it was due its own praise: "With a good sound chip, even HD audio is supported." Shuttle's combination of the ATI Radeon Xpress 200 chipset and support for AMD Athlon 64 processors has, quite clearly, paid off: "We can attest to a full assortment of features and a fantastic performance," conclude the editors!

Conclusion:

"For the excellent performance, the overall design and the good chipset, we have to give the ST20G5 the Gold-Award and - because of its low noise level - the Silent-Award."
