Many manufacturers of DVD writers promise the fastest and the best performance. But how many are able to deliver on their marketing promises? The German IT-magazine Computerbild tested twelve current models in order to find out. Needless to say, the stylish Shuttle CR40 DVD writer was one of them. While its good looks were not evaluated, its performance and price performance were. The results? Read on to find out…
Twelve DVD writers took part in a group test conducted by the German IT-magazine Computerbild. Of course, the attractive Shuttle CR40 DVD writer was one of them. The attractively designed CR40's good looks, available in silver and black, weren't relevant for this test. The only important thing was its performance – yet that too proved to be no problem for the speedy and reliable dual layer burner from Shuttle, the CR40.
The editors were especially impressed by the fast burning performance for all types of DVDs. The Shuttle CR40 ranked "very good" nine times (on 13 testing criteria.) In tests using DVD+R and –R, Shuttle's writer was one of the best as well, with 97.5 % of all media played back perfectly. Only three other burners were able to reach the same result in this category.
Overall the CD40 managed a second-place finish among the twelve models tested and the third place on the overall Top 5 hardware list.
Conclusion:
"The CR40 is very fast and the quality of the burned DVDs was very good. Brilliant: There were no problems with the playback of the burned DVDs."
Test result: good price-performance ratio: good
Advantages:
- Very fast burning times of all DVD types - Few problems during the playback of the burned DVDs - Able to play all copy-protected music CDs
