Shuttle's mid-range solution for home and office use recently paid a visit to the test labs of the Swedish IT magazine Mikrodatorn. The Shuttle XPC Barebone SD32G2 is a "very good buy for anyone looking for a good and silent PC" convincing the editors especially with its "good cooling solution, low-noise level, built quality and fast installation."
"Shuttle is known for their cube-sized barebones PCs," the editors write, such like the Shuttle XPC Barebone SD32G2 which targets home and office users with a silver finish and its "traditional dimensions.
"Striking after having taken off the case that required "no screw driver" was the "easy installation" of the components. The SD32G2 also takes Intel Core 2 Duo processors which are cooled by a "well thoughtout cooling concept," explains Mikrodatorn. This "smart solution" cools "both the case and processor at the same time," point out the editors.Specification-wise, the Shuttle XPC Barebone SD32G2 presents itself with Intel 945G chipset and Intel GMA 950 graphics engine, USB 2.0, FireWire, 8-channel sound, 1x PCI-E and 1x PCI slot for expansion cards.
According to Mikrodatorn, "the SD32G2 provides room for two hard disks and one optical drive." Also, up to 2GBs of DDR-667 memory can be fit in.Since this barebones PC was designed for use in the living room, "it needs to be silent," explains Mikrodatorn one of the main requirements – and the Shuttle XPC Barebone SD32G2 scores well in terms of low noise, as "it has the lowest noise level we have ever measured in a test," cited Mikrodatorn.
