2005-01-11 - CHIP: "BTX-Barebone tames the P4"

The new Shuttle XPC barebone SB86i in BTX-design was the focus of the February issue of German IT-magazine CHIP. The editors were especially impressed by the low level of noise made by the Shuttle XPC barebone, which makes it an ideal choice for the living room according to CHIP.

Once again Shuttle proves its market leadership. The Shuttle XPC barebone SB86i is the first SFF-PC in BTX-format worldwide. The BTX-format was developed by Intel to achieve a more effective cooling of a computer's components. To create a system that works as powerfully as the Shuttle XPC barebone SB81P, the editors used a Pentium 4 570J processor with 3,8 Gigahertz in the test. The significant difference: compared to the Shuttle XPC
barebone SB81P, Shuttle managed to reduce the noise level by 54 per cent with their XPC barebone SB86i. To sum up, the editors wrote that the BTX-format is a worthwhile investment. So the arrangement of the components had been changed in favour of an improved air flow. Which means that "even the most powerful P4s are headed for the living room," concluded the editors.
